Fuse the fan

Or, if the fan seizes, which can and does happen with these older cars (a
chirping from under the hood is an early indication that the bearings are on
their way out), the fuse blows thus preventing a total meltdown/fire which =
loss of vehicle at the worst or replacement of most of the engine wiring
harness at the best.
