Fender Bender repair advice needed

You always have choice, at least here in Canada. The trick is to involve the
"equivalent car" clause.
To make a short story, if the damage is superior to the value of the car,
you can ask the insurance company to find you an equivalent car, (same
condition, make year and mileage irrevelant, same category of vehicle) to
replace your car.
In the example above, an old lady I knew had a little fender bender with a
60's Valiant, no rust, low mileage, and they ended replacing it with a 4
year old Corrola worth about 3000$ which was more than the Valiant's value,
but less hassle than repairing it.
If you are not too hungry, you can negociate with the kid's insurer and
obtain a fair amount to have your shop repair your car. The magic word is
"not too hungry".
