My experience is exactly the same as yours on this side of the pond. IF
your car is worth much more than book for some reason, you have to have
it inspected by an approved appraiser BEFORE anything happens. Put your
foot down on a much higher value than book, and the insurance company
will deny the claim, and you'll have to go after the insured yourself.
