Mann Oil Filters W719/30 vs W719/5

My son just bought a 01 Jetta 1.8T. I have a supply of Mann W719/5 filters for my 88 90q and looked up the Mann e-catalog to see if they fit. Mann lists a W719/30 for the 1.8T, but every dimension is identical as is the bypass valve opening pressure and the presence of an anti-drainback valve. They both have 5 holes on top. What makes them different filters? Different filtering media characteristics?

Similarly, I have some Mahle OC85 filters for the 90q; for the 1.8T the listed Mahle OC47 also has identical dimensions.

Any ideas?
