No, fuel guage always reported correctly.
With that thought, even if it said full it shouldn't be able to compute 1000-2000 miles 'till empty.

Nick,
Was your fuel gauge operating more or less correctly? Or were you seeing indication of a tank that was much "fuller" than the miles from last fill-up should have shown? If so, I'd suggest a sticking fuel gauge sender inside the fuel tank.

My questions: (1)what are the inputs to the avg mpg and miles to empty on the trip computer?
(2) are the calculations done in the instrument cluster or elsewhere?
My avg mpg and miles to empty were way off, not dip switch off, but 3 digit mpg and 1600 miles to empty!
It apperared to be working correctly 5-6 years ago when I brought the car home but then went whacky and has not been near the top of the fix-it list. Once this week the read out went wildy flucuating but with very low numbers. Now it appears to about right. 20 something mpg and 100 miles to empty on near quarter tank.
One of my other Audi's is way off also on the miles to empty.
So if/when it fails again where might I begin looking for a poor connection or failed component? TIA
Nick
