thermostat?

definitely sounds like a thermostat. bad for the engine because engine needs
to come to temp and stay there to work properly [burn off oil contaminants,
water, prevent excessive carbon buildup, etc].

im not sure how hard that is on a v6, not a bad job on the 1.8, i bet the
audiworld resources / audizine forums have a writeup. if it's been that way
for a while i would run some seafoam or techron through it to clean it out.
