Not $300 for fluid, not unless you are stolen from.  That's a ZF made  
5HP19A (2.7t) or 5HP24a (4.2).
Typically they take ~ 3 litres for a service (you should never do a  
complete flush), plus abotu 1 hour for the PITA job. I pay $150 ish  
for my S6 (5HP24A) and just paid $110 for my older 4HP18 (C4 A6q).

That's with Audi OEM fluid, or the Esso (yes, Esso) equivalent,  
available on the ZF web site.

  I agree, tip trannies are the weak link. Get an MT5.
