Door won't open from inside or out

I had the same problem once on my old '90 100, I was
able to wedge a screwdriver between the window seal,
and the glass on the far right of the door, look down
with a flashlight and see the unhooked rod, then
proceed to hook the rod with the end of another long
skinny screwdriver and a hanger bent into a hook, and
opened the door. There's plastic anti-theft blocks in
there that make it difficult, but as I remember the
rod has fallen free of them.
