I'm with them too except that I also recomend water pumps when they
are t-belt driven, especially in 1.8t's with the plastic impellors. I
can't tell you how many times I've gotten a timing belt off and found
the water pump to be leaking slightly or worse.
Think of it this way.. on the (dohc) v6 Audi's the belt interval is
usually 105,00 miles. The water pump is generally thought of as being
good for that, but do you expect it to last to 210,000 next time the
belt is off? I don't. 90% of the time the cost of replacing it while
the belt is off is a hell of a lot better then what it would take to
take the belt off again to do the water pump when it goes bad 10,000
miles later.
