thermostat issue pt 2

OK, I just got back from a 90 mile road trip with speeds averaging 80 mph.
Upper radiator hose is lukewarm at best.  Gauge is still buried at cold,
however it sat for about 15-20 minutes, fired it up, and the gauge went up
to middle point, then slowly went down to three notches above cold.  Is it
the thermostat?   Got prodigious amounts of heat though.
