The only real archilles heel of the B5s are the tie rod ends. Many
cars also experience premature wear on the front control arms,
but the later years seem to be much better. I just replaced the
tie rod ends on my B5 S4 but the control arms are still original, and
they are nice and tight.
Dashboard info display glitches are common (as yours does), but mine
is still good. In fact, *everything* works perfect in my car. There
is not single gizmo that doesn't function like it should. Knock on wood!
:)
Other than that, these cars are solid. I really love my S4, and it
has proven to be very reliable and dependable, and of course, powerful
and fun.
Compared to the type 44, B5s are a quantum leap ahead.
