The only A4 I'd have is a V6 B5 Avant, but even that's borderline. Plus I'd
rather not own any OBDII car - extra cost of the OBDII state inspection, the
extra headache with making it pass the more stringent OBDII inspection
(pre-OBDII cars barely even get looked at here), lack of performance and
lack of...errr....upgradability (its a word now damnit) before it won't
pass inspection. Not only that but parts are more expensive then a 5k's
typical needs and the newer cars leak as much or more fluids.

On both the 4 and 6 cylinder A4's I'm too concerned with the issues with the
oil cooler leaks - I've seen a good number of them bad on customer cars.
Then there's the valve cover oil leaks and the cam adjuster leaks again on
both the 4 and 6 cylinder cars. To really get either engine right you have
to do a timing belt job, plus all of the cam seals, plus remove the cams and
do the cam adjuster gaskets, replace the water pump (make sure it's got a
metal impellor), and all of the timing belt rollers.

The only post-1996 Audi that I really truly would like to have is the
Allroad. I know what you are going to say.... if I'm worried about the A4
costs an Allroad suspension and the 2.7tt oil leaks are absurd, but the cars
usefulness and cool factor outweigh all of the potential issues. Black on
black, either transmission, 2.7tt (yes Wylie... I want your wifes car) and
in a perfect world it would have an MTM chip for the engine and a suspension
chip too......but for the money I'd buy a worn out 930 instead ;-).

Buuuut because I can only afford to keep my 1 lonely heirloom Porsche which
has no turbos I like my 5k's as daily drivers. My non-turbo 5000 leaks a
teeny bit of oil, but neither of the two turbo's that get driven leak any
fluids - not a drop. An EFI'd 5000 is absolutely more reliable then most
newer Audi's, and hell even my still CIS non-turbo beater 5000 has done
great for the past 2 years with only normal maintenance and 1 wheel bearing.
My "fast" one is a bit more work to keep going, but geez what would one
expect with a car thats *well* over doubled the stock output BEFORE arming
the 3 stage nitrous system...
