Thanks for the write-up, Larry! Maybe you should put that in the KB!

Speaking to one of your points, just so you know, brake assist is standard
in nearly every luxury car now and is starting to trickle down to more
mundane cars as well.

I also want to emphasize that in less than ideal conditions, it's almost
impossible to outbrake ABS- ice, deep snow and gravel are some of the few
exceptions- that's why LR and some others have altered ABS programs when you
put the car into "offroad" mode.

That's also why ABS is outlawed in some racing series- it gives you an
advantage. I've talked to several road racers that concur that ABS is
probably the most effective way to threshold brake- that just doesn't mean
you jam on the brakes like an idiot, but push into the brakes, then hard
enough to actuate ABS.

I've been in several situations where if I didn't have ABS, I would have
smashed into someone, like the time someone decided to stop in the middle of
Rt. 1 with everyone going 55 because he/she didn't get over early enough to
get into the offramp.
