Shift into Neutral to save TO Bearing?

So far everyone has missed an obvious reason to be in neutral at the
light - making sure that you don't rear end the car in front of you or
inadvertently end up in the intersection. A moment's inattention, a
hydraulic failure, or in the case of the type 44, breakage of the
clutch pedal, and you lurch forward. I myself had a hydraulic clutch
slave leak down while sitting in traffic and if I hadn't been really
quick with the brake and stalled the motor I'd have been filling out a
police report. In one of my 5ktqs I experienced a failure of the
throwout bearing carrier that resulted in permanent engagement of the
clutch. Luckily that happened on an off ramp while downshifting so I
had plenty of time to unload the drivetrain and get the transmission
in neutral.
