I'm pretty displeased with the twiki interface as well. I find it
confusing/annoying and the page layout ugly...and at one point, there
was a bug where EVERY SINGLE PAGE LOAD caused the authentication
dialog to come up under Safari. The Twiki developers seemed to take
the arrogant attitude of "it works fine in every OTHER browser, so
we're not going to fix it", even though no other web app I've ever
used/seen has this problem. I think it's since been fixed, but I was
less than impressed. It also has some account business which
painfully requires human intervention.
I suggested moving it to the same software Wikipedia uses, converted
a few articles (by hand- some of them are in dire need of formatting
cleanup and such), and asked for help moving articles. I got mostly
silence, so I dropped it.
The knowledgebase is very important. If a bunch of people are
willing to *commit* to helping convert a few articles each (it's not
hard, you just need to learn both twiki and Mediawiki "markup", and
it's pretty easy to print out the short manual for each covering said
markup) we could do it in a weekend or less start to finish.
Converting a single article, and cleaning it up, shouldn't take more
than an hour. Much less if you skimp on the cleanup or the article
is short, or well written, etc.
I'm willing to commit to at least several hours of editing some
weekend. Anyone else?
Brett
