Jim,

You can get the proper tool to retract the piston for around $50.
Alternately, you can make a tool from the wing screw that holds the
spare tire. Just grind the end flat at the same angle as the piston
face. You will need a strong gear drill as it can take a lot of force.
Make sure the boot does not bind and the the tool does not slip out and
damage the boot.  Sometimes it helps to turn the piston out a little
before turning it in. If you do this on the car, mount the caliper and
carrier without the disc so you have a stable working area.
