tranny went bad on type44. Shall I be surpised?

I was forced to replace the 016 tranny on my '88 5ktq after
it developed a loud bearing squeal under moderate to hard
acceleration. I have not yet determined which bearing failed.
I had been using Redline MT-90 for several years prior but
must admit I had pounded on that transaxle pretty hard during
that time.
