Not the same, but sort of.  Had water injection system fitted to an  old 
motorhome in the 80's.  It was for reducing the pinging and supposedly  to 
increase mileage.  Mileage still sucked, but it did reduce the pinging  and was fun 
to play with.  Had two controls, one for volume and one for  when to start 
pumping based on engine vacuum.
One definite result was the rusting out of the mufflers due to  excess water 
vapor condensing in the exhaust.
