Ignoring the engine for a moment, the body looks like it's in good
shape. Is the rest of the car OK (suspension bushings, shocks, brakes,
seat leather, headliner, etc.)? If the car is in great shape except for
lack of power, then by all means put the effort into an engine swap. But
if the rest of the car needs work, you may be better off putting the
time and resources into fixing the problems on a 20V, instead.
If you're going for an engine swap, I've fallen in love with the 3.6 V8 from
Audi V8 into older type 44 quattro. 250 hp will move the car pretty quick,
you don't have any IC, hoses etc. that is hard to make fit, the V8 engines
are pretty cheap and most engine bay parts from the Audi V8 will fit you
car. And in addition, you get the V8 sound.. ;)
