misalligned timing belt

A little late on this one but ...
The only time I had a misaligned T-belt was on a Porsche 944, when I
had wrongly placed a washer on one of the tensioners or rollers (4 in
this case for 2 belts).  Can't recall but it was either between the
tens./roller and the block, when it should have been on the side away
from the block or vice versa.  It chewed the belt teeth on one side in
a month or so.  Luckily I heard its soft tapping on the cover and put
a new belt in.
Never had this happen on Audi.
