This morning on my way to work, I got rear ended in my
'87 VW QSW by some dude in a 2002 BMW 330I sedan.
His car hit the 1/4 most, driver side, rear bumper of
mine around 5 to 10 miles per hour as we approached a
stop and go traffic leading to a highway ramp.
The impact pushed, or dragged rather since I had my
brakes on, my car for about 3 to 5 feet
We both got out and inspected for damages.
My QSW only sustained a scuff mark while his Bimmer
got a broken driver side fog light, bumper clear coat
shattered/peeled and bumper itself pushed in about ½.
Im sorry I hit your car, I just woke up, he said as
we met to inspect the damages.
Since my car did not really sustain any damages (so I
thought), I did not exchange insurance info and simply
went about my day. That was the stupid thing to do as
I still should have gotten the insurance info off the
dude!!
½ a block down the road in still stop and go traffic,
my car dies. The Bimmer dude still behind me sees this
and takes off on the broken down lane.
I managed to start the car after some seven attempts
and pulled over to the shoulder to inspect things
further.
I started the car again and checked for weird noises
in the engine and hear a vacuum leak off of one little
air hose between the air intake manifold and valve
cover. I discovered that one of the plastic Ts in one
of the vacuum lines that lead to the ISV is broken and
bypassed it. The car started fine but a vacuum sound,
loud enough after pushing the throttle comes about.
Needless to say I did not trust driving the car to
work and left it parked at a nearby bus/train station
lot until further probing.
Upon closer examination of the rear end, I noticed the
Bimmer also hit my exhaust tip, thus, pushing the
entire exhaust system forward and consequently engine.
What are your thoughts?
Regards,
-Louis
