Does anybody have any tips on this job? My friendly local mechanic has a
press and has done several sets for me in the past but only on the stamped
steel control arms, not the cast ones.
thanks,
Dave

I used a ball joint press that I loaned out from autozone on my 80q.

Big, Beefy device that was more than up to the job. The trick I learned (on
bushing # 6 of 8 replaced) was to "bend" the outer lip of the bushing in so
that it would fit within one of the sleeves that come with the ball joint
press.

Then, I used an electric impact wrench and a couple of sockets to press out
the bushing.

Managed to do this on my own, without having to fully remove the control
arms from the car and with potentially no need for an alignment later.

I think Huw also designed a bushing press from some pipes and plumbing
fittings. check his website for photos.

It's a big pain in the butt job to do, but it will make a noticeable
difference.

If you want your mechanic to do the job, I can't imagine that the process
for the cast control arms is too terribly different from the stamped ones.
