Idle stabilisation on CIS-e engines

Q. Is the Idle Stabilization done old-style (big relay thingy in the fuse box)
or is it handled by ECU?

A. Handled by the ECU. The '89 80 coupe is using the later CIS-E3 which is
similar, but not the same and deviates in many ways from the earlier version.

*note Applicable to 1989 Model 80 (U.S. Models)

A rotary Idle Stabilizer Valve (ISV) with return spring attached to the motors
armature is a different design from the prior versions. The motor is operated
by cycled DC voltage (duty cycle) that changes the opening size. This is a
two wire ISV and works to increase idle speed only, and not bipolar like some
other three wire ISVs or some that change polarity direction.

The ISV is operated by the fuel injection control unit and not a separate
relay type controller. With this system there are no idle adjustments and for
proper operation, the idle screw must be turned all the way in to its
seat(closed).

Hi gang,

Quick question on the KE jetronic or cis-E as I beleive it is known stateside.

I'm looking (occasionally) at my brothers '89 80 coupe with this system. It
has all the lambda control all dpr hallmarks of KE, whilst the ignition system
is not integrated - it has a knock sensor and no vacuum advance, but does not
use a crank position sensor so still uses a basic setting of the dizzy for
static timing.

If that's info enough to start with, can anyone tell me if Idle Stabilisation
is done old-style (big relay thingy in the fuse box) or is it handled by ECU.
??

All suggestions appreciated.

Cheers Rob.]
