Open question about 4000 Strut bars Jamex?

Somewhere in the garage sits a new, and still unmounted, Jamex bar from that
group buy of MANY years ago. I was finally planning to get all that stuff
done now...the urq has waited too long.
However, if no other source is available, I suppose I could make mine
available to copy. It would just put me off some more time...

Really it depends on the quantity. I'd presume we'd do
powder-coated cold-rolled steel as opposed to 304 series stainless. Most
bars are powdercoated CRS. Most of the tubing we bend is much larger
diameter... so if we want mandrel bends, I might have to farm that part
out. Quantity will be king as far as price, since we'd need:
1. Tubing; setup and cut to length.
2. Tubing bends (setups)
3. Tower base plate (x2), program and CNC punch.
4. Deburr tubing ends and base plate.
5. Weld bar to base plate (fixture)
6, Powdercoat.
7. Nutsets and hardware.
Depending on clearance, we'd weld the bar directly to base plate, or weld
uprights to the base plate and bar to it (adds one setup). This is about as
simple a product my company makes. Not a problem... I just need dimension
for drawings. Easiest way is to dimensionally copy a known good example.
Off the top of my head my factory cost will be $125. to $175. depending on
quantity. If there's enough interest I'll have my engineering department
do some firm costs with quantity breakdowns. As long as the overhead is
covered, I'd be happy to get them done. Roughly 5-6 weeks from example to
finished bars. I'd estimate we need at least 10. If it'll fit my '87 4KCSQ
we only need 9 more!
If there's no objection, add $5 or $10 per bar for donation to the list.
Good idea?
