thanks huw.. 
i might just redrill the header panel to accept 5000 sunvisor clips. 

as for the trip computer, i could have gotten the cluster and  switch cheap, 
but if you  dont think the wiring is already in there then i wont bother..   
(has anyone on here actually tried it?) 

vanagons are the same way.. the earlier ones didnt have tachs, so the tach 
wiring isnt there and you have to run wires to the coil to power the tach.. ive 
done this plenty of times :<)
