Well, as was suspected, it seems that the problem was something simple.
Trivial actually. I decided to check the basics first.
So I went out last night and clamped a 250 watt halogen work light to
the edge of the open hood . Wow, daylight. Anyway after getting the car
started (15 to 20 tries), and letting it warm up, I checked the basic ox
sensor freq valve duty cycle and ISV current settings. The ISV was close
(400mA vs specced 430), but the ox sensor duty cycle was pegged at full lean
(90%). I adjusted it down to to 40-50%. It's not as steady as it should be,
but at least I could rev the engine w/o it choking.
This morning it was 25 degrees out at 6:00. Car fired, ran and idled
perfectly. I will not pronounce it fixed until I retest at 10 degrees
(coming Friday) and see that it drives OK.. I also have to track down the
cause of error code 2221 - "no manifold pressure signal". The dash gauge
works fine, and I THINK that's the same sensor the MAC-14 uses (anyone
know?), so I am a bit confused.
Thanks for the encouragement......
Dave
