Jim,
What was very, _VERY_ cool in the vintage market was the eBay auction for a
job lot of old DKW's in Pennsylvania just before Christmas. Buried in the
pile of rusty parts (most of the cars were Juniors like mine) there was the
remains of a fiberglass convertible. It turned out to be a DKW kit car -
designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin (of Kaiser-Fraser fame). The Darrin DKW's
are nearly the "Holy Grail" of Deekdom - only 25 were made, built up at
Flintridge Motors in California. The lot went for around $1K (the "Holy
Grail" being an actual Auto Union Spider prototype). I've been talking to
the guy who bought the lot - he wants the roadster, but is passing on the
Juniors. (Now I've got to figure out how to make a vulture trip to the
Carlisle area before April.....well in advance of my planned attendance of
the Imports at Carlisle at the end of May....argh......)
Thanks for the Craigslist link - you could really make a scene at a local
Audi cruise night with one of those bug foggers.
