Passed the test drive with flying colors... now I can keep track of my 
fuel economy and oil changes properly again.  Although, I've been 
driving so few miles, I should be changing oil based on time, not miles.

So, at the end of a not-so-arduous project, I just wanted to thank the 
listers who pointed me to the speedo bench test info on Chris Miller's 
web site, and those who sent me links to the place that sells the gears.

I'm amazed that something so arcane could be remedied so quickly just by 
asking a few questions on the creaky old Q-list!

PS, I also was gratified to see that the S/N ratio on this question was 
100%.  I had cynically expected lots of random stuff about fixing 4kq 
odos, etc., so thanks to all who *didn't* do that for reaffirming my 
faith in humanity.  Or at least this little slice of it.
