Alternative to pricey Fuel Accumulator?

Hello All,
$220 for the fuel accumulator on my '83 CGT....ouch. Haven't pulled it yet, but feels like there is a little nob/nub on the top that fuel is spraying out of. Looks like it's the same part for all 80-84 (maybe longer) 4000/CGTs.
Now, this little bugger is just a pressurized vessel to keep the fuel pump from sucking air when things are sloshing around, correct? Seems that this job could be accomplished by many things that do not cost over $200. As long a custom replacement can withstand the PSI, it should be no problem. (?)
Surely one of us has thought of this before. Any experience and/or comments? Or maybe a known OEM part from another vehicle that would work? Mine is leaking from the very top middle of the unit.
Thanks in advance!
-Adam
