what does it mean when... (error code readout)

I believe on our cars the CEL also indicates that the knock sensors are
detecting knock. If your engine is not knocking, possibly you have a bad or
loose knock sensor (there are two of them on the block).

Subject: what does it mean when... (error code readout)

So my CEL has been going on just recently after the engine warms up ('88
80Q w/ modified cam within the last 18 mo.). It started after getting new
gas. Often my CEL goes on after refueling but it goes away after a few
hours. This time, it hasn't, so I wanted to see what the error code would
be.

I have tried my usual technique of tripping the readout of the error
codes using a spare fuse, but this isn't working. I don't believe I've
ever had that happen before.

What does it mean when you can't trip a code readout? ? ?
