'82 Coupe drum brakes

Nick,

I have a 80 VW Rabbit with rear drum brakes as well, I believe they
should be close to the same. I ran into a similar problem, as the
springs kinda exploded when taking them apart and I didn't know where
and how exactly the pieces went back together, specially the wedge. I
have this setup, yours should be same or close to it.

I am not sure if you have replaced the shoes before on your car. I
installed the wedge  incorrectly first, but it did look right. Maybe
post a picture just to verify that you have it installed correctly.
