Air Bag light Disconnecting battery enough?

Disconnecting the battery should clear it. The reason the light went on is
because:
1. Probably the key was switched to the "on" position with the plug
unplugged.
2. The airbag circuits check for continuity to make sure there isn't a
"problem." Any "problem" illuminates the light and stops the airbag(s) from
deploying (even in a crash with most cars).

Recoding the module is another way the system can be reset, but battery
disconnection for several minutes should suffice.

As far as disconnecting the battery isn't enough, Audi (and other
manufacturers) have shorting plugs (mandatory dealer equipment) for the
airbag harnesses when disconnecting them. Basically they short the 2 airbag
pins in the connector on the airbag side to make sure static electricity
doesn't accidentally deploy it. I think that's what Scott is recalling.
