VAGCOM is "free" for the laptop, it's the cable you have to buy!

I borrow my brothers cable when i need it, he bought the $300 one that
allows him to get all the updates. VAGCOM can also be used as a "generic"
reader for other OBD II vehicles, comes in pretty handy.

But, if you don't want to buy equipment, go to local FLAPS. You'll probably
have a couple of codes stored, quite often if car is running erratically
you'll get a ox sensor code and some others!. You kind of have to sort out
what the "real" code is, make repairs, and run codes again!
