S6 "sputtering" puzzle update

I have now had a chance to do some swapping, diagnosing, etc.
Things swapped with known good units and no change:
 
Mass air flow meter
Waste gate frequency valve
throttle position sensor
boost bypass valve
VAG computer - no codes
pressure tested repeatedly for boost leaks with stethoscope - holds  pressure 
well (even after valve turned off).
 
Just for grins I threw in a used (but great shape) set of F5DPOR plugs.  That 
seems to have changed the behavior slightly. Instead of 17 psi limit, it  now 
sputters about 20-22 psi, and can be sporadic, coming in and out at higher  
RPM.
Any more input greatly appreciated.
