Hi Mark,

Thanks for offering up some info!

Those old tires I mentioned (RE71, AVS intermediate, SP Sport 5000) were
good tires for spirited street driving, which is what I'm looking for now.
I also tend to drive the same tire all seasons.

At the time I made those earlier purchases, my 80Q was pre-coilovers,
pre-anti-roll bar, pre-dedicated track wheels and tires, etc., so as soon
as I went out to do a track day they were toast because of the heavy
weight and the flex in the front end. I don't track my Audi now... I think
I'll wait 'til I'm rich and can retire it from being my daily driver.

What are you recommending for Audis these days?

side issue! little Audi content:
And now I'm curious about the Pilot Sport Cups. I had to buy a set last
week because it was the only tire that fit my track wheels (different
car): 205/55 16 F, 245/45 16 R. It was a very painful experience for my
wallet. But I already had trouble fitting the Yoko A032Rs on the rear --
had to work really hard on the alignment to get everything to fit, and it
looks like the PSCs are even bigger than the Yokos were. A friend of mine
with a new M3 returned a set of 17s or 18s that he couldn't get to fit
without rolling the fenders. Why are the PSCs so 'fat'? Why is it so
hard to find an R compound 245/45 nowadays? Are the manufacturers making
tires for SUVs and trucks instead? Have you ever heard of anyone
manufacturing tires "to order"?
