Vittorio,
See below for answers to your block questions.
I have some decent MC-1 exhaust manifolds including one I rewelded - heated in
bar-b-que and MIG welded the tiny cracks inside and out, then cleaned up with
grinder tools. It would still be a god idea to have the port side planed, and
you can ream the openings out and polish to finish off what I started.
I could sell this one for around $150 if you are interested $200 if you want
it ceramic coated. I also have some good downpipes - they tend to crack
around the turbo flange, so you may want to investigate that as well.
This is a lot less than you would pay to have one done. I just happen to have
one I did and no longer need it.
I have quite a few bits for MC turbo engine buildups, incase you may need some
other things.

Hi:
Wanted to get a general consensus from some of you in the know.
When buying a used motor what would you expect to get on that motor if
it was;
a) Complete
Includes everything to bolt in as a complete upgrade engine swap including
wiring harness and sensors. This usually has intake and exhaust manifolds,
throttle body and intake hoses. Sometimes includes the turbo and downpipe and
intercooler - if applicable. You need to ask or specify and sometimes best to
supervise or do the job yourself if getting from a boneyard, as even if you
specify complete wiring harness, you'll likely get one chopped to pieces.
b) Long Block
Includes the short block, head, water pump, timing belt valve cover all
together. Should have the oil pan, pump and pickup all bolted on.
c) Short Block
Generslly this is just the engine block with pistons, crank, harmonic
balancer/crank pully. May or may not have the flywheel. This won't have a
head or any other ancillaries and may not even have the oil pan, pump or
pickup.
I am now getting the picture that the exhaust manifolds on these older I5
motors tend to crack - my old one is;
a) is that a big deal - I mean to have an exhaust manifold w/a crack installed
in the car
Big deal if it is leaking and causing noise, exhaust fumes in the car and poor
driveability.
b) if it is a big deal - what's the next step - I saw a thread regarding
welding - what does that cost?
Labor can be the big deal here. A good upgrade for the MC-1 or 2 is the two
pieceavailable from the dealer, but is not cheap - all parts are around $800.
TIA
