gti mileage

I never noticed a big change in my S4 summer vs. winter, but colder air is
more dense, so at cruising RPM, you will be injecting more fuel. Also
colder fluids will add some amount of drag and add frictional losses to
overcome. Inclement weather also often precludes fuel saving habits like
cruise control and steady speeds. That said, less fan cycling, A/C, more
efficient cooling all add mileage... to a point. Extremes are never good
for economy.

One thing that will effect your economy (by up to 10%!) is oxygenated
(alcohol and ether blends) fuel. Most metropolitan areas mandate this
during winter months. There is approximately 3% less energy in the fuel,
and I understand some (rumors, no personal experience) car's fuel mapping
add to fuel economy losses. Anecdotally I've heard 10%, but I suspect that
3% fuel and 7% winter driving habits/conditions. In other words, if you
live in an area with oxygenated fuel, you're guaranteed at least a 3% loss
in economy during the winter months versus spring/fall.
