Once you're getting into the 200+ amp alternator range, I think you need
water cooling in order to keep the alternator from overheating. The 110 amp
alternators in Audis had air ducting to keep them cool.
$21k for that is outrageous, though. The alternator in a Maybach is probably
not much different from the one in a 7 series BMW, also water cooled. I
doubt the 7 series part costs $10k.
