Steel Braided Brake Lines

Not all lines are created equally. Also, there's no such thing as DOT
approved... they don't do approvals, the DOT does standards. It's up to the
manufacturers of the lines to test and adhere to those minimum standards.
Any reputable source is fine. Personally I've installed hundred of SS
braided lines and have only seen one failure- due to an improper crimp
(somthing I've seen on non SS braid covered lines as well). If your
braiding fails on a covered line, the line must be replaced.
Last I knew, no manufacturer of lines (of any style) lists thier lifespan of
more than 10 years.
No matter what style you go with, choose a reputable source. Good quality
fittings and proper crimping is what makes a quality line these days.
Cheers!
