wiki whining

Allow me to address some of the recent whining about the wiki.
I'm frankly surprised at some of the posts, particularly from long  
term listers.

Yes, the wiki content is still there.
Yes, Dan still checks the list.
Yes, I still give a crap.  This site wouldn't exist if I didn't.
Yes, I got your donation.
Yes, I appreciate it.
No, I didn't spend it on hookers and blow.

The simple fact is, the wiki is a huge vulnerability.  The longest  
outage this site has ever had since its inception in 1993 (under my  
watch) was due to a wiki/php exploit.
After that incident, I banned the wiki, but was convinced that it  
could be made solid.
And what did I see while copying over content to the new server?   
Thousands upon thousands of porn links.  That's not the legacy I want  
to show my kids one day.

So, until I could/can figure out a solution, I took the wiki offline.

Finding a viable solution takes time.  Well, in addition to  
supporting a wife and raising three kids, I recently lost my job.   
I'm not looking for sympathy, just explaining why I might have less  
than enough time to sift through porn.

As far as why I post more often on other sites than this one, well  
yes, I don't own an Audi.  But more importantly, my home ISP blocks  
port 25 so I haven't been able to send email from home, and I haven't  
had an office to go send email from.

If you have constructive criticism (based on experience) on how to  
make the wiki editable yet rock solid, feel free to email me.  The  
reality is that even wikipedia gets butchered time and time again,  
yet they have hundreds of volunteers policing the site.  Are you  
willing to provide that level of moderation on one or more wiki  
pages?  Again, email me.
