You are far too kind to the DOT people. IMHO the US spec DOT headlights
are.....well, this is a family forum so....I can't say it. Seriously though
they are flat out unsafe at any night speed.
I have a rather nice 88 5KTQ avant which came with nice Euros, which were
promptly smashed the first winter by the gravel on the roads. I recently
sourced a new (used) pair which sit on the shelf waiting for spring to be
installed. I am currently running with retrofitted 4 quad headlights (2-H4
and 2-H1) from an 84 5KT for the winter. Much easier and less costly to
replace. I have plenty of 'spare' H4 and H1 lamps on the shelf from garage
sales - usually bought for $2-$5 Can (that's like $15 US :):):):) WITH a
bulb!!!

I'm from Norway. I have to say that the 200 was extremely expensive here
when new (around $100-140k), so most of the 200s on the roads here are
imported from Germany in the later years.
Finding a 200 in a Norwegian junkyard is almost impossible, but you might
find something in Sweden. Due to no import tax on cars, Sweden have always
had (and still does have) a lot more expensive and bigger-engined cars than
Norway. I found a pre-facelift 200 in a Swedish junkyard a few years ago,
but the headlights, bumper/grill was already gone. A lot of people here
install the 200 headlights/grill/bumper on their 100s because it looks a lot
better..
So - difficult, but maybe possible in Sweden. Then again, probably only
possible together with the headlights. Now that's not bad, the DOT 200
headlights are at best "not very good" compared to the European ones.. ;)

Well based on that plus figures from other posts suggesting I'm going to
have to pay over $100 for one damned reflector it looks like I've got two
options. Forget about it, or contact an aquintaince in Norway and have him
keep his eye out for a used one in a junkyard or such. With 25,000 or so
turbo's sold here I'd immagine there was at least that many sold in
Europe...theres got to be some of these reflectors somewhere!!
I'd seen that left side light assembly on Ebay.de, but I just can't justify
spending $100 on this right now. I was thinking it would be half of that for
such a tiny plastic part.
