Better fuel pump needed

I think you guys missed the point I was trying to make. I simply don't need folks
pointing out the obvious that should be checked as a matter of course. I intended to do
a full check on these things before I posted any question, and think I provided enough
in the first few lines to indicate that. I don't mind getting these helpful obvious
hints, but would prefer getting an answer to my question, along with it. If I wanted
more info. On how to diagnose a noisy fuel pump, I would have asked. BTDT many times. I
do appreciate getting the articles that go beyond what I'd expect to be printed in a
reply - then I can read or discard - and I did read the article Scott J. gave a link to.

Come on guys..

If I were a newbie on the list, then feed me the obvious. Most of the time, and I think
you know this, the questions I ask invariably end up being solved by myself since no one
has the answers and I am doing things beyond the simple. I could have gone and ordered
another Bosch pump outright, but figured with the collective knowledge of this list,
someone had ventured to try something different. The only person who gave me a suitable
alternative was Scott J. Well I did get the suggestion for a Bosch pump offered at 2-3
times what I could have purchased for elsewhere which did lead me to my conclusion - so
that was helpful too.

Anyway, I appreciate the help and attempts to help and always do even if the suggestions
seem rather condescending. With multiple pointed suggestions to double check the
pre-pre-filter screen in the tank, you can be sure the tank will be drained and probed.
But I was going to do that anyway, just not without a new pump in hand.

Also, I did some research awhile back as I was puzzled about the rate of failure of a
lot of Bosch pumps - I had been seeing quite a few "new" pumps that lasted a very short
time and failure wasn't due to starvation or debris clogging. I don't recall the
specifics, but basically had to do with very poor quality control of pumps being
manufactured in Chech Republic and elsewhere. Many were units being rebuilt - but not
really, and being resold as new units.

I have no doubt that in general, Bosch still makes pumps that are the highest quality in
the world, and would have likely ordered the 044 had I not found an alternative that
based on what I read was on par quality-wise and less than half the price.

Good luck, Ben.

However, you really should look at that damn screen in the tank or other obstruction in
the fuel lines. Hate to have you screw up your new pump/pumps. You did change out the
big fuel filter (not
prefilter), right?
