Any BTDT on 3B single pass intercooler install into earlier type 44 (5kt/200)?

It apparently is not a direct bolt-in since the lower hose won’t align properly with the
intercooler cross-pipe.  Any one who has done this install would know what I’m talking
about.  I have all parts from 3B and 5000QT.  Car is 5000 CD Turbo Quattro  so bumper
mounts a little different than US versions, but main problem is with the lower turbo
hose going into the cross-pipe.  Other than that fit check seems OK.

Unless there is a better way, I plan to cut crosspipe in center and rotate turbo end
down – is that the solution?
