Odd 4K no start

Alright, I managed to start it today and somewhat drive it. What was
wrong, who really knows!?
Ignition and fuel system checked out, as I got spark when cranking and fuel
when jumping the relay and lifting the air plate. Timing belt dead on, so
was the distributor(wires, rotor and cap), good compression. All good fuses,
good grounds, working relays. Still no start.
After almost giving up and having it towed to a friends shop, I pulled the
ECU temp sensor - still no start(as that was the most recent replacement).
Then pulled the sensor in the back of the head (thermo time switch?) and
while cranking it sounded it was catching. With a bit of gas it started, ran
pretty rough. Adjusted distributor slighly so it idles good and
reved decently, but extremely sluggish when under load (no ignition advance,
missing springs within distributor).

Conclusion? Hard to tell. Bentley was not of much use for this no start. The
tables in the Ignition, CIS/Fuel chapters covered the main things, but
checked all out. Fluke, bad wiring?
