Turbo wear limits

When I received the replacement WX drivetrain, the turbo looked suspect to
my untrained eye. Even a pro mechanic kinda confirmed my feelings. So I
ordered another one on the marketplace and when it arrived, it was just as
much worn.

But were they really that bad ? I bit the bullet and bought a dial gauge
(40$). Well, both sellers were right and I was wrong. End play is 0.003
while the wear limit is 0.008, while radial play is less than 0.010 (wear
limit at 0.022). It amazing that such a small play can be diagnose as bad by
an untrained eye. Sorry Mike and Cody that I mistrusted you, my apologies.

Now, the second turbo is from a KH and it is water-cooled so to install it I
will need a complete set of oil and water lines. I have plenty of time now
to find them, as I will install the turbo that came with the engine.

Speaking of the engine: block is honed and cleaned, I am just waiting for
the rings and rod bearings to arrive from http://www.northernautoparts.com/
in Iowa !

Why there ? because they have plenty of WX parts, except the main bearings,
and their prices were better than good : 45$ for the rings and 15$ for the
rods. I found them on eBay. I had to source the mains locally for 125$. Audi
wanted 450$ for these. (72$ each main and 28$ for the thrust washers.)

All this to reinstall a completely stock engine. The fast guys here must
think I am crazy !
