Sticking Throttle plates will cause idle issues. BTDT.

Its a very close and precise fit between the throttle plates and the
throttle body. Over time, the throttle body gets gummed up with gunk
and the plates dont close all the way. It doesnt take much gunk to
hang up the plates.

When was the last time you had the throttle body cleaned out? Most
likely never.
Its easy enough to remove the throttle body and give it a good
cleaning - 4 Allen head bolts. Replace the gasket.
While you have it apart, test the idle and WOT swithches for proper
operation.

Subject: 88 5KTQ this week my idle speed has gone up

Hi All
I have an 88 5KTQ this week my idle speed has gone up. Normally and
now when
I first start the engine it idles at between 900 and 1200 rpm. Now
after the
engine has warmed up it idles at about 2200 and then goes down to
about 1800
rpm. I have checked the throttle and cruse control cables and they are
not
holding up the idle. What will cause this?
