Lexus concept could pass for an R8

I guess for Toyota in F1, being best of the rest isn't good enough, eh?
What I DON'T get, if the Lexus brand is worldwide, then why wait for the
connection to F1 success? Especially since the economy isn't likely to
improve anytime soon. R&D yen already invested going no where. But what do I
know about marketing?
