Radio Reception

the factory audi radio's typically get good am/fm reception. i would try the
usual suspects - that the antenna connection is good [and grounded well]
from the antenna body [or window antenna] all the way to the radio.
typically there's a connection by the antenna, and another by the radio,
where it plugs into the car. the 3rd potential ground is the radio body
itself - if it touches metal in the dash.
you can sometimes change reception quality by juggling the antenna grounds -
disconnecting / connecting and trying various combinations of grounds. try
lifting [disconnecting] the antenna body ground and /or the chassis ground
and see if that help / changes things.
if it's not a connection issue then maybe the radio has expired? fwiw, the
reception in aftermarket radio's is usually dismal, especially when plugged
into a weak window antenna. signal boosters / amplifiers amplify signal and
noise indiscriminately so don't bother. i replaced my stock am/fm/tape in
the a4 with an alpine for ipod connectivity and amp outs. the radio
reception is pitiful..
