On the V8Q, Audi addressed bad reception by installing a power antenna to
substitute the rear (window defogger) antenna. Sounds like someone took
the same route on this car. Pop the radio out and check the antenna
connector(s). Audi went with a smaller nonstandard plug and I've seen
many hacked ones over the years that were causing problems with
reception. My '84 5KS didn't have an amplifier, AFAIK.
