I've driven them, they are the best automatics ever, but still not the
same as having a stick.

That said, they also usually come with a $2,000 cost difference, have had
some reliability issues if the motor's output is increased through tuning
and the maintenance is a nightmare. 

Here is a write-up of the $400 tranny fluid change that you are required
to do every 40,000 miles (!) that my buddy just made up :

Not to mention the vag-com hex ($400) and special vw tool blahblahblah
that are required as part of the service.

How often do you have to change the juice on a manual, how much does it
cost, and how easy is it?   How many people are going to let jiffy lube
change the fluid on their "automatic"... groan.
